Don't Stop, Won't Stop

Annie's followup to Anniemal, is finally ready to be released November 17th. Four years in the making, Don't Stop is a fitting mantra for the new album. Struggling with her label Island Records, and ultimately parting ways, Annie has emerged from the dust independent and triumphant. Pursuing her vision and refusing to let anything get in her way (including a Girls Aloud fiasco) Annie has never lost steam. Annie has since signed with the Norwegian label Smalltown Supersound, who specialize in jazz, rock and electronic music, a label that better suits her vision. Upping the ante for this record, Annie collaborated with producers Xenomania (Girls Aloud) and Paul Epworth (Bloc Party, Sam Sparro), Franz Ferdinand's Alex Kapranos and Datarock. The result, electronic-pop that can hold court with the best of them.

Lilly Wood and the Prick Fall Down The Drain

An adorable twosome from France, Lilly Wood and the Prick makes sweet folksy/pop music. They released their first album, Lilly Who and the What?, this year. A collection of melancholy love songs, which I find myself comparing to the likes of Cat Power and Eisley. The album name is a playful nod to green fans, who they say tend to forget their name! Eek, not for long I'm sure, as you will want to remember who sings these sweet songs. A lovely cover of Santogold's "L.E.S. Artists" can be found on the album as well. Nili's gentle voice is enchanting. Be sure to give these two a listen!

Husky Rescue: They Are Coming

"We love musical tales that open doors to other worlds with no specific destination or conclusion in mind" - Husky Rescue
Husky Rescue have a new album coming out and I could not be more excited. I have listened to this delightful Finnish band for years. They create alluring, hazy reveries that will have you spellbound. The new album Ship Of Light sets sail in January. The single "They Are Coming" makes waves in December, which the band recently shot a music video for.

Feel the NOISE

A cross between Hairspray pop and Mad Men elegance, the Noisettes' soulful 60's stylings perfectly blend the old with the new. From bluesy ballads to dancey romps, the sophomore album Wild Young Hearts shows the bands creative range, while maintaining consistency.

Classics such as Fleetwood Mac and Prince were a huge inspiration for the album. “We knew we wanted soul and an atmosphere that captured a specific period of time," said drummer Jamie Morrison on their Web site, "The way Portishead albums do.”

Shingai Shoniwa adds “We’re not trying to be trendy – we want to make music for everyone – but we put effort in to every aspect of being in a band. Our aim is to prove that pop music can still be alternative and exciting. With this album, I know we can do that.”

A fun, fresh album, if you haven't given it a listen yet, you need to!

Sing Along to Songs You Don't Know

Múm (pronounced moom) are a dreamy, experimental, electronic collective from Iceland. The music coming out of Iceland always seems to be cutting edge and fresh to me (Sigur Rós, Björk). The landscape and climate there seems ideal for sparking the imagination, especially during summers sans-darkness and winters sans-light. Múm were in NYC the other week for CMJ and performed a showcase at Le Poisson Rouge to a full-house. A rainbow of sound phases in and out of their music as the various members play an eclectic range of instruments. The list includes trumpet, piano, keyboard, cello, ukulele, guitars, drums and percussion. So yes, experimental seems a fitting description for the imaginative Múm.

Slip into a world of fantasy and let Múm take you on a whimsical journey of sound.

Múm released their fifth studio album this summer, Sing Along to Songs You Don't Know, and our currently touring around the world. (Fun fact: Animal Collective's Avey Tare's wife Kria Brekkan is a former member of Múm and performed a solo-show during CMJ).

VV Brown Gives Sex and the City A Try

This news was just too exciting for me to pass up. VV Brown auditioned this week for a cameo spot in the Sex and the City sequel! If the directors like what they see, she'll be cast in the movie (what her role would be, I don't know). Best of luck VV! This is what VV tweeted on her Twitter page:
"performing in front of directors of sex in the city movie. Absolutely excited. Im obsessed with sex in the city !"
(afterwards) "I really hope we get in the movie."
VV was also recently featured in WWD for her bold fashion sense, and edgy 80's inspired label VV Vintage. For the curious and fashionable, a slideshow of her fashion spread is posted on the site. To top it off, VV made her first American radio show debut this week on KCRW, performing the hit "Crying Blood" and an unreleased track "Caroline" (no Andre 3000 does not make a guest appearance).

The girl is unstoppable these days. Looks like someone is having the 'best month ever.' You deserve it VV. Fingers crossed she makes it in the SATC movie, with her fashion sense, the girl will have no problem fitting in. Patricia Field would be proud.

Happy Halloween everyone! I don't know about you, but I am SO ready for the weekend!
